A significant aspect of regular automotive maintenance involves the matter of ensuring that your vehicle has clean fuel and air filters. A car engine's fuel and air filters prevent the motor from consuming contaminants that are detrimental to the vehicle's performance.
Different automobile manufacturers recommend different filter replacement schedules. Furthermore, the suggested filter replacement schedules vary from one class of vehicle to another, and depend upon the severity of the driving conditions. Generally speaking; however, your engine's air filter should be changed every 12,000 miles, and its fuel filter every 20,000 miles.
Some automobiles also have a cabin air filter which is designed to filter the air that is directed into the passenger area. Retro Lube can help you keep your vehicle in top condition by maintaining all three of these filters (the engine's fuel filter, the engine's air filter, and the cabin's air filter).
Most modern automobiles use a fuel injection system to deliver the fuel to the engine in a very precise fashion. Fuel injection systems employ small injectors or nozzles through which the fuel passes.
Over time and even during normal use, the small injector nozzles can become partially clogged by carbon deposits and various additives found in the fuel. If the injector nozzles become significantly clogged, the automobile's performance will suffer. Retro Lube's fuel injection cleaning service helps keep your vehicle operating optimally by maintaining an unobstructed passage way through the fuel injectors.
An automobile's radiator is responsible for cooling the vehicle's engine. The radiator is connected to the engine via hoses through which a fluid coolant (primarily water) is pumped.
If the radiator becomes clogged, or if the volume of coolant flow is reduced due to leaks, then the automobile is prone to overheat. Similarly, if the proper portion of antifreeze is not present in the cooling system during freezing weather, the fluid coolant may freeze. A frozen coolant fluid cannot circulate and may even crack the engine due to the expansion of the water becoming ice.
Retro Lube's radiator services address vehicles with factory-sealed radiators and those with non-sealed radiators. For automobiles with a factory-sealed radiator, Retro Lube checks the cooling system for leaks. For automobiles with a non-sealed radiator, Retro Lube services include: draining and flushing the cooling system, refilling the cooling system with fresh coolant, ensuring that the portion of antifreeze is suitable for the driving climate, and checking the cooling system for leaks.
The function of an automobile's transmission involves transmitting power from the engine to the wheels that move the vehicle. Both manual and automatic transmission types operate with the help of a transmission fluid.
Transmission fluid, which may be a special automatic transmission fluid (ATF) or any one of a variety of motor oils, serves several essential purposes. In both a manual transmission and in an automatic transmission, the transmission fluid serves to lubricate the transmission's many moving parts. In an automatic transmission, the transmission fluid also serves as a coolant, and as a viscous medium through which mechanical power is transferred.
Regarding service schedules, recommendations vary from one automobile manufacturer to another and depend on the type of transmission as well as the associated driving conditions. In general however, the transmission fluid in a manual transmission should be changed every 20,000 to 50,000 miles. The transmission fluid in an automatic transmission should be changed every 40,000 to 80,000 miles.
Retro Lube transmission services address both manual and automatic transmission types, including the differential transmission.
Windshield wiper blades are a helpful and very inexpensive component of your automobile's anatomy. These supple "blades" make direct contact with your windshield as they squeegee across the glass when you turn on your vehicle's windshield wipers. The most common type of wiper blade is made from natural rubber or a rubber-like material.
In order to work properly, wiper blades must have a smooth edge and be pliable enough to conform to the curvature of the windshield throughout the wiping motion. If using your automobile's windshield wipers produces streaks or unwiped areas on your windshield, the wiper blades probably need to be changed. Retro Lube can inspect the wiper blades on your automobile and, if necessary, replace them with new wiper blades.
In many automobiles, a single serpentine belt is used to drive multiple accessories, thereby replacing the need for several separate belts. The term serpentine is descriptive of how the belt snakes around the pulleys associated with the accessories driven by the belt. The serpentine belt is typically made of a tough rubber material and exhibits a thin, flat cross-sectional shape. Accessories such as the water pump, the air conditioner compressor, the power steering pump, and the alternator are commonly driven by the serpentine belt.
Since the serpentine belt is critical to the operation of several functions, it is prudent to ensure that the belt is in good condition. As is often the case, different manufacturers recommend different servicing and replacement schedules. In general; however, if the ribbed side of the belt has more than four cracks per inch or if a single crack (regardless of how many cracks per inch) penetrates more than half way through the belt, then the belt should be replaced. Retro Lube can inspect the serpentine belt in your car or truck and advise you regarding its condition. If the belt needs to be replaced, Retro Lube can do the job professionally.
All motor vehicles used in the state of North Carolina must pass an annual NC Safety Inspection. The intent of this law is to prevent needless deaths and injuries that might otherwise be caused by unserviced vehicles being used on the highways. The components checked during an NC Safety Inspection include: brakes, lights, horn, the steering mechanism, windows, windshield wipers, exhaust system, directional signals, mirrors, and tires.
Many counties in North Carolina already require an on-board diagnostic (OBD) emissions test. The newer diagnostic hardware (often called OBDII or OBD II) is manufactured into all 1996 and newer automobiles sold in the USA. In addition to being an official NC Safety Inspection station, Retro Lube also has the equipment needed to perform the OBDII emissions inspection.
Since real-life driving does not exclusively involve perfectly symmetrical turn sequences and perfectly symmetrical road topologies within each lane, automobile tires - on the same vehicle - incur wear differently. This uneven-wear phenomenon can be observed by simply looking closely at each of the tires on your vehicle and noting the change in their appearance as the tires are used.
Rotating your automobile tires appropriately will make the tires last longer and prevent vibrations caused by excessively uneven tire wear. Automobile and tire manufacturers suggest that tires be rotated every 5,000 to 10,000 miles depending upon the associated driving conditions. Retro Lube can rotate your tires for you and suggests that rotating your tires coincide with every other oil change (approximately every 6,000 to 10,000 miles).
If your car or truck exhibits problematic vibrations while it is being driven on a smooth road, the tires may need to be balanced. Tire balancing ensures that the weight of each individual tire is evenly distributed circumferentially. Retro Lube has the equipment and the experience needed to professionally balance your automobile tires.
